She captivated millions as she reinvigorated Kate Bush’s vocals for Peter Gabriel’s “ Don’t Give Up”. She then took that exposure and recorded her landmark album that changed her life, “ This Fire”.
The album ended up earning seven Grammy nominations of which she won Best New Artist. Paula generated two TOP 10 hits with her VH-1 staples “Where Have All the Cowboys Gone” and “I Don’t Want to Wait ”, which was featured as the theme song to the 90’s hit show “Dawson’s Creek”. She proceeded to tour as a heralded regular on the Lillith Fair Tour. Her next album “Amen” was critically praised: “Amen”-- made by a professional record-maker, who knows not only how to craft a song, but how to craft sound”. “Amen” failed to register the big breakout hit, but did chart some success with her dance mix of “I Believe in Love”. Paula eventually took a self-imposed sabbatical from music to raise her child in a less hectic environment. But she has only recently continued to put out critically acclaimed albums with “Courage” and her new album “Ithaca” , that debuts in September , 2010. Paula states that this music “burst out of her and just had to be written”. The song “My Life” was heard on Mercury commercials and she is proud of her new songs as they reflect “her life”. Her sound somehow remains edgy even as it verges on the adult contemporary sound of Norah Jones. As Paula describes it “it rocks, it’s musical, yet it’s tender”. Make sure you spend some an evening with this mesmerizing, beautiful, strong, sensual woman! Matthew Perryman Jones....are you ever watching a highly emotional poignant point of some TV drama and the music swells and you get taken away with the moment? Did you ever wonder who had written that moving music? Well, quite often in the last few years that music has been done by Matthew Perryman Jones.
