Barleyjuice & Coyote Run
Celtic Rock

Friday, March 12, 2010 at 7:30 PM

Ticket Prices: $30, $25, $20

Barleyjuice: Six yanks dedicated to the preservation of the fine drinkin', fightin', courtin', dyin' and sailin' songs of Ireland & Scotland.

How many bands can boast the fact that two of the members have played bagpipes for royalty? Barleyjuice, the group with a penchant for all that is “trad-rock” can, and are presently garnering affection and respect in the New World. Formed by Staten Islander Keith "Swanny" Swanson after a memorable stint with the now legendary Flailin' Shelaleghs, the 'Juice have brought traditional sounds a long way from their Ellis Island predecessors.

Why wouldn’t people love Barleyjuice? Frequent front-man Kyf Brewer muses humbly, “We can dance with your daughter, mosh with your son, sing with your grand-mother, toast your dad under the table, and we¹re so handsome and humble your mum will be cookin’ for us by night's end…”

"If there is such a genre as Rock-Star Celtic, Barleyjuice is the foremost entry.” ---Cornwall Review, Cornwall, UK

Coyote Run -  Majestic bagpipes, tribal drums and soaring vocals that transform Celtic Legend into a SPELLBINDING experience.

“Coyote Run has at one time or another been compared to Jethro Tull and Red Hot Chili Peppers in kilts yet in actuality defy pigeonholing. They emerged in 1999 and like choice wine, they continue to improve with age."  With over ten years of national touring, Coyote Run has firmly established a reputation as a literate, mythic Celtic Rock band. They dive deeply into history and mythology to present a powerful, driving performance that takes the audience on a journey that is at once difficult to categorize, and hard to forget.

"Their ability to mesmerize an audience is only secondary to the quality of their sound.”  Their sources include the poetry of legendary Scot, Robbie Burns as well as Yeats, Shakespeare, Henley, Tennyson, Blake, Kipling and more. Their highly theatrical performances sweep the audience away to struggle to escape the seductive lure of the Faerie mound, march with the Scottish honor guard for Joan of Arc, dash pell mell into battle with Sir Francis Drake, defy the universe with the bold words of Invictus, or await the arrival of the dreaded ghost train in the rugged Welsh hills.

Given that Coyote Run's founder and lead singer has been a theatre professor for many years, it is no surprise that their performances are considered 'pure theatre'.  Currently constructing their ninth CD, Coyote Run headlines and performs in major Celtic festivals and concert halls throughout the United States, as well as tours of Ireland and Scotland.

Rock & Roll Tribute with the Mahoney Bros.

RELIVE THE MAGIC...LONG LIVE THE BEATLES WITH THE WORLD'S LONGEST RUNNING BEATLES TRIBUTE!

Saturday, October 2, 2010 at 8:00 PM

Ticket Prices: $27 general admission

“If I didn’t know any better, I’d swear it was The Beatles.” -Bob Eubanks, Hollywood Bowl

“There are other Beatles tribute bands, but the Mahoney Bros. are undoubtedly the best.” -The Times, Trenton, NJ.

“The musical and physical resemblance on stage is startling.” -The Sun, Clearwater, FL

RELIVE THE MAGIC….LONG LIVE THE BEATLES!

By the fall of 1978, Long Live The Beatles growing reputation and a sold out show for 10,000 people at Six Flags Great Adventure brought the brothers to the attention of the producers of the Broadway Production Beatlemania. The producers were blown away by the brothers’ attention to detail, including right-handed guitarist Tim who had recently taught himself to play bass left-handed to accurately portray Paul McCartney. An offer was made to Brian and Tim to audition for the roles of John Lennon and Paul McCartney respectively. The brothers “passed the audition” and soon began daily rehearsals on Broadway for their debut on the “White Way”.

While Tim and Brian were still in rehearsals in 1979, Beatlemania closed on Broadway. But the brothers wasted no time and secured themselves a multi-year deal for Long Live The Beatles with Six Flags Entertainment, enlisting youngest brother Mike on the drums as “Ringo” along the way. The show was performed for an estimated three million people at the Six Flags parks from 1979-1984.

The brothers would also reach another milestone during this period becoming the first Beatles tribute band to recreate a Beatles concert at a major league baseball stadium, performing for more than 37,000 rock n' roll and baseball fans at Philadelphia’s Veterans Stadium in 1980.

As much as the band was enjoying performing the music of The Beatles, their time in Legends inspired the brothers to expand their musical impersonation act to include many of the other outstanding artists of the last fifty years of popular music. The result was the debut of Jukebox Heroes Live! in 1987.

In the last twenty years, both Jukebox Heroes Live! and Long Live The Beatles have evolved into full multi-media spectaculars, bringing the brothers (joined by the multi-talented Jay Swanson as “George Harrison”) all over the globe. From crowds of 80,000+ at Giants Stadium and Disney’s Epcot Center, to multiple sold-out casino performances at The Borgata in Atlantic City and The Biloxi Grand in Mississippi, to national TV appearances on Entertainment Tonight and MTV, the band has captivated audiences young and old for more than 30 years and shows no signs of stopping anytime soon.

Whether performing an intimate, private performance of Long Live The Beatles or a full production multi-media tribute, The Mahoney Brothers still take great pleasure in recreating the look, sound, and timeless music of John, Paul, George, and Ringo.

Welcomes

Double Shot of the Blues
Otis Taylor "The Bluesman with a Conscience" and

The Nighthawks "The First and Best White Man's Band"

Saturday, October 23, 2010 at 7:30 PM

Ticket Prices: $34, 29, 24

“…Taylor’s work is a blues-based meditation on love, childhood and race comparable to Marvin Gaye’s opus ‘What’s Going On.’” -Wall Street Journal

“…blending the austerity of Delta blues with the expansiveness of free jazz, Taylor's ancient-sounding, avant-garde ëtrance blues has a dangerous pull...”-L.A Times

" Otis Taylor is not the best banjo player; he is the best bluesman today...and his new album is the best blues album of the 21st century."--Rock and Folk, France International

“Live at Wolf Trap…served as a vibrant showcase for the Nighthawks…the crowd most certainly got their money’s worth---and then some.”-Washington Post

With Otis Taylor, it’s best to expect the unexpected, as part of Taylor’s appeal is his contrasting character traits.  His music is an amalgamation of roots styles in their rawest form with, what he terms, a whole new blues style called avant-garde etrance blues  His song discuss heavyweight issues like murder, homelessness, tyranny, and injustice and yet his personal style is lighthearted.  But it is precisely this element of surprise and contrast that makes him one of the most compelling artists to emerge in recent years.  In fact, "Guitar Player" magazine writes, “Otis Taylor is arguably the most relevant blues artist of our time.”

Whether it’s his unique instrumentation (he fancies banjo and cello), or it’s the sudden sound of a female vocal, or a seemingly upbeat optimistic song takes a turn for the forlorn, what remains consistent is poignant storytelling based in truth and history.  On his seventh CD, Below The Fold, due in stores Summer, 2010, Taylor will roll out a set of stylistically varied songs that point to a blues-based center but are awash with Appalachian country overtones and moody, psychedelic rock.  This unique ability to meld and merge sounds has made him the top choice of film makers as evidenced in his inclusion on sound tracks ranging from Johhny Depp's "Public Enemy" to Mark Wahlberg's "the Shooter."

Over the last 30+ years, The Nighthawks have earned a reputation as one of the best and hardest working bands around. They have gotten their widest acclaim for being one of the first and best white boy blues bands of their generation, and for putting on a great live show. But their acclaim and accomplishments go far beyond that.  They were a roots rock band before there was such a thing as “roots rock.” They play a wide variety of music that has appeal to a diverse audience, mixing the blues, rock and soul—along with rockabilly and swing.

They’ve played all over the U.S., with the East Coast and Midwest being particular strongholds. And they’ve toured around the world, establishing especially strong followings in Germany and Japan.  Three of the four band members have been playing together for 30 years, a stretch that few in rock or blues can match. They continue to bring great musical skills and energy to all that they do—it’s a remarkable road they’ve traveled and story they have to tell.

The Blanks
aka Ted's Band, THAT CRAZY QUARTET from the TV show Scrubs® - a cappella comedy troupe

with special guest local comedian and morning DJ Earl David Reed

Saturday, December 4, 2010 at 7:30 PM

Ticket Prices: $35, 30, 25

“The Blanks were exactly what we were hoping for – hilarious, silly, and fun.  But on top of that, they are really great musicians.”-Kirt Batemen, Davis Arts Council

"Like “Scrubs”, you’ll LOVE the Blanks.”-Salt Lake Tribune

The Blanks, are a quartet of friends who like to sing a cappella music.  For a few years now they've been appearing on the television show Scrubs as 'Ted's Band' where, as luck would have it, they have to pretend to be a quartet of friends who like to sing a cappella music.  They have been thrilling audiences with their easy mixture of trained vocalists transforming familiar songs to a cappella wonders while making the crowds laugh the night away.  At any live show you could possibly see them singing TV and movie themes such as "Charles in Charge" and the "Six Million Dollar Man." They also do songs with talking toys - that's right, four grown men who still play with dolls err--- I mean action figures.  They will be bringing a special seasonal take on the holidays for the whole family
